Faustino's journey began with a challenging admission to a local hospital in Houston, where he underwent a posterior spinal fusion to address debilitating spinal pain. Unfortunately, his recovery was marked by complications, including ventricular fibrillation that necessitated respiratory support through a ventilator. Despite these setbacks, Faustino's resilience shone through as he managed to overcome the ventilator dependency, however needed continued medical attention.
Recognizing the need for specialized care, Faustino was transferred to Kindred Hospital Sugar Land, where a dedicated interdisciplinary team swiftly devised a tailored care plan to address his complex medical needs. Led by his primary physician, Faustino received targeted antibiotic treatments to pave the way for a successful recovery. Upon admission to Kindred, Faustino was weak and relied on the care team for assistance. However, his unwavering determination fueled his commitment to the intensive rehabilitation program set by his therapists. Despite the initial challenges, Faustino embraced the regimen enthusiastically, setting his sights on regaining strength, independence and returning home to his loved ones.
Throughout his stay, Faustino's progress was steady and gradual. With the guidance of his therapists, he diligently engaged in bed exercises, gradually transitioning to more demanding activities such as transferring from bed to chair and eventually standing independently. As his muscular endurance improved, Faustino achieved significant milestones, including ambulating 250 feet with the aid of a walker and minimal assistance.
Driven by his desire for full recovery, Faustino persevered, mastering essential activities of daily living with newfound confidence. By the time of his discharge, Faustino had not only regained mobility but also regained substantial upper and lower body strength. His ability to perform general self-care tasks was a testament to his remarkable journey of resilience and determination. Faustino was discharged to a lower level care where he continues his rehabilitation.
