Jerry's Success Story
From Kindred Hospital Tarrant County - Fort Worth Southwest
Jerry was involved in a severe motor vehicle accident and was immediately rushed to the local hospital in Dallas. He was diagnosed with multiple traumatic injuries, including fractured ribs, a spinal cord injury (SCI), and a right clavicular fracture, all of which required supplemental oxygen. After several weeks at the hospital and making steady progress in his recovery, a medical decision was made to transfer Jerry to Kindred Hospital Tarrant County Fort Worth Southwest for extended medical care. Upon admission, the care team quickly crafted a comprehensive care plan based on his medical condition. Jerry, who was initially reliant on the team for all his care needs, never gave up hope of returning home. He diligently applied himself to the care plan, working tirelessly with the physical, occupational, and nutrition therapists.
Jerry's physical therapy focused on rebuilding his strength and mobility. His sessions included strength training to improve muscle strength, particularly in his upper body and core, which were crucial due to his spinal cord injury. He utilized various exercise equipment, such as resistance bands, free weights, and specialized machines, to enhance his workouts and promote muscle recovery. Mobility exercises were designed to enhance his range of motion and flexibility, aiding in his recovery from the clavicular fracture. Additionally, his workouts emphasized balance and coordination, essential for his goal of returning to an active lifestyle.
Occupational therapy was integral to Jerry's recovery, aiming to restore his ability to perform daily activities independently. His therapy included practicing activities of daily living, such as dressing, bathing, and grooming, to regain independence. He learned and used adaptive tools and techniques to compensate for his injuries and engaged in exercises designed to improve his functional mobility around his home and workplace. Nutrition played a crucial role in Jerry's recovery. The nutrition therapist developed a personalized plan to support his healing process, which included a high-protein diet to promote muscle repair and recovery from his injuries. Jerry received adequate calories to meet his increased energy needs during rehabilitation, with a variety of nutrient-dense foods to support overall health and recovery.
Through hard work and support from his care team, Jerry made remarkable progress in his recovery as he passed all goals set in his care plan. Jerry was able to discharge from Kindred, to a lower-level care where he works to continue strengthen training, mobility and independence rehab. From the entire staff at Kindred, we wish him all the success in his recovery.
