Darrell's Success Story
"Being cared for by the staff at Kindred was like being cared for by family. I can’t thank you all enough!”
- Darrell
Darrell is a very active man who has worked in the printing business for over forty years. He and his wife, Laura enjoy spending time with their family, including their children, and grandchildren, and also share a love of gardening and home improvement projects.
Darrell experienced a fall at home in March and was rushed to the ER. He was diagnosed with a major brain injury and had an emergency craniotomy. His recovery was further complicated by a history of heart issues and ultimately, he was intubated and had a PEG tube placement.
Darrell arrived at Kindred Hospital Dayton in early April for vent weaning, physical and occupational therapies and wound care.
Darrell is now liberated from the vent, decannulated, walking and getting stronger each day. He worked very hard with speech therapy and has advanced his diet. Today he enjoyed a celebratory smoothie courtesy of the staff and hopes to have the PEG removed soon.
Darrell is always smiling and is quick to make a joke to brighten our team’s day. His wife beams when asked about her husband’s remarkable recovery.
Darrell has been accepted to an acute and aggressive rehabilitation facility where he will continue his healing journey and hopes to be home by the Summer.
Care for Complex Conditions
Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
