Jessica' Success Story

Happy patient in wheelchair with caregivers

"I give 100 percent satisfaction to the facility and staff.”
- Jessica

Jessica was admitted to Kindred Hospital Las Vegas Flamingo after an acute care hospital stay due to an auto vs pedestrian accident, where she sustained multiple injuries including facial fractures, pulmonary contusion and a head injury.  Jessica underwent multiple procedures including a tracheostomy (trach) with mechanical ventilation and gastrostomy tube insertion for her nutrition needs.

Jessica was transferred to Kindred Hospital Las Vegas Flamingo for continuation of ventilator weaning, physical rehabilitation and neurological care. At admission, Jessica was conscious, with difficulty expressing needs, and was limp on the right side of her body.  During her stay, Jessica was seen and treated by our interdisciplinary team including neurology, and pulmonology.  In addition, Jessica was treated by the interdisciplinary clinical team of nursing, rehab services, respiratory care, nutrition and wound care.

Throughout her stay, Jessica’s trach was capped and then removed.  Due to her condition at the time of admission, Jessica could not participate in rehab therapy, however, during her stay, she started to move her right upper and lower extremities. As she worked with the therapy team, she could ambulate 300 feet with the use of a hemi walker, climbed 12 steps, and participated in her activities of daily living. She began eating and drinking without the need for the gastrostomy tube and could verbally communicate her needs. With Jessica’s ongoing improvement, she was transferred to a skilled nursing facility to continue her recovery.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
