Cathy's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

From Kindred Hospital El Paso

Cathy was discharged from a local hospital in El Paso, Texas, and admitted to Kindred Hospital El Paso for extended care and advanced respiratory therapy. Upon admission, the interdisciplinary team crafted a comprehensive care plan tailored to her specific medical condition, aiming for a swift and successful recovery. Cathy's admission was due to a perforated gastric ulcer and acute hypoxic respiratory failure. The team promptly sprang into action as her admitting physician administered the appropriate antibiotics to combat potential infections while addressing her gastric ulcer and managing her pain.

The respiratory therapy team was pivotal in Cathy's recovery. They employed high-flow oxygen therapy and taught Cathy effective breathing techniques to enhance her lung function and capacity. These interventions not only improved her oxygen levels but also gradually reduced her dependency on supplemental oxygen.

Cathy's rehabilitation also included physical therapy to restore her strength and mobility. The physical therapists designed a personalized exercise regimen to boost her endurance, balance, and overall physical function. Notably, Cathy was able to ambulate over 150 feet using a rolling walker, marking significant progress in her mobility and independence. The regimen incorporated strength training, aerobic exercises, and mobility drills, ensuring a comprehensive improvement in her physical health.

Occupational therapy was another essential aspect of Cathy's rehabilitation. The occupational therapists focused on helping Cathy regain her independence in performing daily tasks and activities. They worked on enhancing her fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and developing adaptive strategies, ensuring Cathy could safely and efficiently manage personal care, cooking, and other essential activities. This holistic approach helped Cathy regain confidence and autonomy.

Passing all goals set in her care plan, Cathy was able to discharge home and rejoin her family. From the entire staff at Kindred, we wish her all the success in her recovery.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
