Alana's Success Story
From Kindred Hospital Clear Lake
Alana was discharged from a local hospital in Houston, Texas, and transferred to Kindred Hospital Clear Lake, where she required extended medical care. The interdisciplinary team crafted a comprehensive care plan based on her medical condition, as she was suffering from MRSA bacteremia with associated fatigue, chills, chest pain, and muscle weakness. Alert upon admission, Alana embraced her care plan with the goal of returning home to her loved ones. During her stay of over four weeks at Kindred, Alana's recovery involved numerous hours of both physical and occupational therapy. The physical therapy sessions focused on rebuilding her muscle strength, improving her endurance, and enhancing her overall mobility. Her physical therapist employed various techniques and exercises, from resistance training to mobility drills, ensuring that Alana gradually regained her strength and physical function.
Alana's occupational therapy sessions were tailored to help her regain independence in daily activities. Her occupational therapist worked diligently with her on tasks such as personal grooming, dressing, and meal preparation, utilizing adaptive equipment and strategies to overcome her muscle weakness and fatigue. These sessions aimed to ensure that Alana could return to her home environment with the confidence and capability to manage her day-to-day tasks.
Alana's admitting physician prescribed a rigorous course of antibiotics specifically targeted to combat her MRSA infection. Regular blood tests and monitoring were conducted to assess the effectiveness of the treatment. Gradually, her symptoms of fatigue, chills, and chest pain began to subside, and her infection markers showed significant improvement. The medical team's vigilant care and Alana's strong compliance with the antibiotic regimen were pivotal in her recovery from the severe MRSA bacteremia. As the weeks progressed, Alana responded well to the treatment and was soon free of any infections. Her dedication to over 100 plus hours of physical and occupational therapy played a crucial role in her recovery. Her therapists noted significant improvements in her strength, mobility, and ability to perform daily activities, reflecting her hard work and determination.
By the end of her stay, Alana was free of any infections and had made great progress in her strength, mobility, and ability to perform general activities of daily living (ADLs). She was deemed suitable for discharge and was able to return home to her family.
Care for Complex Conditions
Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
