Fred's Success Story
From Kindred Hospital Clear Lake
Fred, an active individual who loves spending his free time line dancing, began experiencing persistent stomach pain. Initially dismissing it, he relied on over-the-counter medications, hoping the pain would subside. However, as the pain continued, Fred decided to seek medical attention. At the local hospital, he was diagnosed with a gastric ulcer complicated by peritonitis and acute renal failure.
During his extended hospital stay, Fred spent a considerable amount of time bedbound, leading to severe muscle fatigue. Upon discharge, he was transferred to Kindred Hospital Clear Lake for advanced medical care, dialysis, and extensive rehabilitation to rebuild his muscular endurance and help him regain his mobility. Despite the daunting challenges, Fred was determined to persevere. Adapting to dialysis was tough, but Fred drew upon his inner strength and resilience to push forward. He actively engaged in the comprehensive care plan developed by his interdisciplinary team. Over the course of his rehabilitation, Fred dedicated over 100 hours to intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
Fred's commitment to his rehabilitation was unwavering. Initially, he required assistance to transfer from his bed to a chair, but through persistent effort and guided therapy, he progressed to using a walker. Soon, he was able to ambulate with minimal assistance. His physical therapists worked tirelessly to help Fred regain his strength and coordination, while his occupational therapists focused on restoring his ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs). Speech therapy sessions also played a crucial role, helping Fred improve his communication skills affected by his medical condition. Proper nutrition was another vital component of Fred's recovery. The dietary team ensured he received meals tailored to support his healing and overall health, enhancing his strength and energy levels.
Eventually, Fred was deemed suitable for discharge as he exceeded the goals set in his care plan, however, continues his dialysis session and rehab. From the entire team at Kindred, we wish him all the success in his recovery.
