Stephanie’s Success Story
"I'm feeling and seeing the progress.”
- Stephanie
Stephanie was admitted to Kindred Hospital Brea from St Jude Medical Center in June for the treatment of a pelvic abscess with concurrent osteomyelitis. Stephanie had previously undergone treatment for cervical cancer including chemotherapy and radiation therapy. This treatment was complicated by cystitis, colitis, proctitis, and the development of colovaginal and suprapubic fistulas. Subsequently, she had a neobladder, ileal conduit, and colostomy placement.
Upon admission to Kindred Brea, Stephanie required minimal to moderate assistance for bed mobility and transfers. She was also unable to walk due to complaints of fatigue and fear of falling.
Under the guidance of our interdisciplinary team, Stephanie has shown substantial improvement. Upon discharge to our Brea Subacute Unit, she was able to ambulate over 420 feet indoors and outdoors using a rollator. Additionally, she can negotiate stairs with standby assistance/close guarding assistance and perform functional transfers with minimal assistance to close guarding assistance.
Care for Complex Conditions
Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
