Patrick's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

From Kindred Hospital Albuquerque

Patrick, who works from home in the software industry, was admitted to Kindred Hospital Albuquerque after being discharged from a local hospital due to an infection of the right buttock, known as cellulitis. As a diabetic with peripheral neuropathy, Patrick faced additional challenges in his recovery. Kindred Hospital Albuquerque was chosen by his care team because he required specialized wound care treatment along with physical therapy to improve his well-being.

Upon admission, the interdisciplinary team at Kindred Hospital crafted a comprehensive care plan tailored to Patrick’s medical condition, with the primary goals of wound care treatment and physical therapy. The team quickly sprang into action. Patrick’s admitting physician administered the appropriate antibiotics to battle any lingering infections.

The wound care team played a crucial role in Patrick’s recovery. They performed the necessary debridement to remove dead tissue and promote healing of the infected area. This meticulous care included regular cleaning and dressing of the wound with advanced wound care products to prevent infection and promote tissue regeneration. They also utilized negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) to enhance wound healing and reduce the risk of complications. The team monitored the wound closely, making adjustments to the treatment plan as needed to ensure optimal healing.

In addition to wound care, the physical therapy team was essential in assisting Patrick with improving his overall physical abilities. Due to his peripheral neuropathy and prolonged bed rest, Patrick required a tailored physical therapy program to rebuild his strength and mobility. The physical therapists designed a progressive exercise regimen that included range-of-motion exercises, strength training, and balance activities. They also incorporated gait training to help Patrick regain his ability to walk independently. As part of his therapy, Patrick engaged in activities to improve his cardiovascular health and overall endurance. The team provided education on proper foot care and strategies to prevent future injuries, considering his diabetic condition.

Patrick’s dedication, combined with the expertise of the interdisciplinary team, led to significant improvements in his condition. Patrick passed all goals set in his care plan and was able to discharge home with home health. From the entire staff at Kindred, we wish him all the success in his recovery.

Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
