Wanda's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

"A big shoutout to David and Nikki, my RNs. They always went above and beyond and always seemed so happy to be doing their jobs.”
- Wanda

Wanda was admitted to Kindred Northland Hospital (KNH) in early February after undergoing a hernia operation that caused severe health risks. Post-surgery, Wanda’s stitches had popped open and caused a bacterium that became extremely severe. Wanda had to go back into surgery to repair the damage and was put on IV antibiotics and had a peg tube placed. She endured a great deal of pain and required a lot of wound care. She then developed a fistula due to the wounds she endured after her surgery.

Wanda came to KNH for wound care, physical and occupational therapies, IV antibiotics, and her feeding tube. She went through a lot of revisions due to her Necrotizing Fasciitis complications. When arrived at KNH, she was in a lot of pain and very agitated. Wanda shared, “I was not a model patient for the first month or so”.

As her wounds began to heal and she was on the road to feeling better she was able to participate in her therapies. Although she didn’t want to do anything but lie in bed, she was soon able to get up on her own and move about her room. “Achieving this made me a totally different patient,” shared Wanda. “I want to thank everyone for being so patient and kind to me while I was not so patient and kind.”

Wanda is now at a rehabilitation facility to work on her strengthening and endurance in hope to get back to her home and shares, “With God and faith, all healing is possible.”

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
