Walt P's Success Story
"If it wasn’t for therapy, I wouldn’t be where I am with walking and getting around.”
- Walt
Walter (Walt) is a single young man who is close with his family and has a twin brother. Walt was admitted to a local hospital with shortness of breath and confusion and had to be intubated and then transferred to the ICU. Walt was diagnosed with pneumonia and had an NG tube placed for feeding. His health was declining and at one point his family was concerned they might lose him.
Walt came to Kindred Hospital Lima in February, for high-flow oxygen therapy, IV drips, push medications, NG tube feeding, and occupational, physical and speech therapy. He also had some confusion and high anxiety.
Walt left Kindred and was able to return home with his mom on one liter of oxygen, no IV medication, no more confusion, improved mobility and an oral diet.
Walt was also a long-time smoker who vowed to never smoke again. He left Kindred feeling like a new person who has learned from his past and was woken up by the scare of this hospital stay.
Care for Complex Conditions
Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
