Ricky's Success Story

Patient in wheelchair with caregivers

"I feel 100% better than when I arrived. All staff were very caring and attentive. They made me feel like their family.”
- Ricky

Ricky was admitted to Kindred La Mirada from Rancho Springs Medical Center for respiratory failure, with a tracheostomy, 24-hour ventilator support, and a gastrostomy tube for nutrition. At first, Ricky needed a lot of encouragement to participate in therapy, as he was scared that his oxygen level might drop. He was bedbound and slept most of the time, but with the help of our staff and his son, who was always at his bedside, Ricky slowly participated in rehab. Once he began to see the positive results of it, he continued without hesitation.

Ricky’s goal was to ambulate while sustaining good oxygen levels and prior to discharge, he could walk 250 feet and was only on two liters of nasal cannula.

Ricky looked forward to going home, which he was able to do in early April.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
