Richard's Success Story

Happy patient posing with caregivers

"I am grateful to the entire interdisciplinary team."
Richard

Richard, a Software Engineer, was transferred to Kindred Hospital Riverside from Riverside Community Hospital. He was admitted with a tracheostomy for mechanical ventilation and could barely speak, drink or eat. He was also very weak and unable to move around.

During his time at Kindred, Richard received a multidisciplinary team approach to care, which included nursing, rehab (physical, occupational and speech therapy) pharmacy, dietary, MD and respiratory therapy.

When our team first started working with Richard, he had difficulty standing, was unable to walk and required some assistance moving in bed and completing self-care tasks. With his full participation and motivation to get better, he was able to start moving around on his own and walking with either a walker or a single-point cane. He has also improved his independence in self-care tasks and can now talk, eat and drink without any restrictions.

As Richard was safely discharged home, he expressed his gratitude to the whole interdisciplinary team for the great care he received and the progress he attained while in our care.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
