Randall's Success Story

Patient with caregiver

"Everyone has been great in keeping me positive.”
- Randall

I had been feeling poorly but continued to work out in my Pulmonary Rehabilitation program. It finally came to a head when I ended up in the emergency room, and was put on the ventilator, had a tracheotomy (trach) and feeding tube placed. I was in the ICU until I arrived at Kindred Chattanooga.

All the different departments started working with me very quickly. Respiratory Therapy started decreasing my time on the ventilator, and I was weaned off the vent fairly quickly. I thought I was going to have to keep my trach, but they convinced me it was safe to take it out. After talking to everyone, I was glad we took it out. Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapy had me up and walking right after I got there so I was able to regain strength and eat sooner than later. Of course, the nursing team was there to help with medicine and overall care, which was great.

I am going to rehabilitation therapy to get intense Physical and Occupational therapy. After that I am going home. I cannot wait to see my dog, family, and friends at pulmonary rehab. I want to get back to taking care of my rental cabin and living life as best I can.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
