Joseph's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

From Kindred Hospital Albuquerque

Despite facing the challenges of being paraplegic and confined to a wheelchair, Joseph found hope and recovery through the dedicated efforts of the interdisciplinary team at Kindred Hospital Albuquerque. Upon admission, Joseph's medical condition required specialized attention for advanced wound care and intravenous antibiotics. The interdisciplinary team, comprising healthcare professionals from various fields, swiftly formulated a comprehensive care plan tailored to Joseph's unique needs. The primary objectives were to address non-healing wounds, sacral-infected decubitus ulcers, and chronic osteomyelitis.

The interdisciplinary team, driven by a commitment to Joseph's well-being, embarked on an aggressive wound treatment. Daily monitoring became a crucial aspect of his care, ensuring that every step taken was in alignment with the goal of achieving advanced wound healing. Specialized techniques, including low-pressure wound care, were employed to maximize the healing process. Joseph’s administering physician played a pivotal role in his recovery by ensuring the timely and accurate administration of antibiotics. This not only addressed the existing infections but also supported the overall healing process. Simultaneously, the nutritionist played a crucial role in maintaining the right balance of nutrients essential for Joseph's recovery. A holistic approach was adopted, recognizing that healing extended beyond medical interventions.

Throughout his five-month stay at Kindred, Joseph experienced a transformative healing process. The aggressive and targeted treatments led to a remarkable 94% healing rate of all lower extremity wounds. This achievement was a remarkable milestone pivotal moment in Joseph's rehabilitation journey. His newfound ability to tolerate sitting in a chair for four hours during dialysis treatment was a testament to the success of the interdisciplinary team's efforts. Joseph was discharged from Kindred to a lower-level care facility where he continues his ongoing recovery and receives additional physical therapy.
