John's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

"The best feeling ever was to wake up and breathe on my own.”
- John

From Kindred Hospital Melbourne

John was transferred to Kindred Hospital Melbourne after an initial admission at Melbourne Regional Hospital, in February 2024. After a complicated stay, due to slurred speech and left-sided facial droop, John went into acute respiratory failure. This required him to be intubated and placed on mechanical ventilation. John was obtunded and was unresponsive upon arrival at Kindred Melbourne.

In the trust and care of our respiratory team, John progressed from being dependent on a breathing machine to no longer needing oxygen support and decannulation, within five short weeks.

John improved so much that he was discharged to a subacute rehab facility, where he eagerly continued his rehabilitation and gained more independence. What a remarkable recovery for John!

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
