James' Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

"Now life can continue!”
- James

From Kindred Hospital Melbourne

James was originally admitted to HCA Osceola Hospital in March 2024, with worsening pain in his legs. After a complicated hospital stay, James went into respiratory failure. He was orally intubated, placed on mechanical ventilation for breathing, and required a tracheostomy and a PEG tube for nutritional support. He was transferred to our Kindred Hospital Melbourne in April 2024.

Kindred’s interdisciplinary team approach propelled James on the road to recovery. He was weaned off the ventilator and decannulated within weeks of being transferred. He progressed from being dependent for all mobility, to self-care and walking over 100 feet upon discharge.

With the help of our Speech Therapist, James progressed from a feeding tube to an oral diet before being approved to go to the Acute Rehab Unit at Kindred Hospital Melbourne and ultimately discharged home.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
