Jacqueline's Success Story
Jacqueline was hospitalized with respiratory failure, sepsis, and kindey injury, leaving her weak and dependent on high-flow oxygen. After transferring to Kindred Hospital, she received comprehensive rehabilitation and gradually regained her strength and independence.
Jacqueline was admitted to a local hospital with shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. There, she was diagnosed with acute respiratory failure secondary to pneumonia, acute sepsis, and an acute kidney injury. She spent multiple days in the intensive care unit, requiring heated high-flow oxygen and IV antibiotic therapy. Due to her condition, she experienced significant weakness and was deconditioned far from her baseline independence. The decision was made to transfer her to Kindred Hospital Bay Area - St. Petersburg.
When Jacqueline was first admitted to Kindred, she required supplemental oxygen. She was easily winded when mobilizing and very weak. Kindred's interdisciplinary approach to care provided the support she needed to begin progressing. She began physical and occupational therapy supported by her respiratory therapist. Jacqueline worked extremely hard and, in time, was able to wean off the high-flow oxygen to room air and regain her physical independence. She was discharged from Kindred, completely independent! She is a true Kindred success story!
