Heather's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with caregivers

"Thank you, Kindred for all you did for me. I can't wait to go home to my children!”
- Heather

Heather was transferred to Kindred Hospital Sycamore after suffering from a motor vehicle accident. Due to shortness of breath, her mother convinced her to come back to the hospital and she ultimately needed to be placed on a ventilator with tachycardia, mild hypotension and several other issues. Her condition continued to worsen when she was diagnosed with pneumonia and hospital course septic shock.

Unable to walk or speak, Heather was agitated and worried for her two children at home. She was agitated and worried about two children at home.

With the support of our respiratory and therapy teams, Heather’s health quickly improved. By the time she was discharged, Heather could walk 10 feet independently and 150 feet supervised with her walker. She was decannulated off oxygen completely and could eat and do most acts of daily living (ADLs) herself.

Her parents and our Kindred Sycamore staff are so proud of Heather. She was a real trooper during her recovery and ultimately was discharged home to her kids and family.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
