Christina's Success Story

Happy patient leaving hospital with walker

"So glad to be going home."
- Christina

Christina, a loving wife and mother, was hospitalized following cardiac arrest. She was placed in the ICU for care and was comatose at one point.

Christina came to Kindred Hospital Rancho with a tracheostomy (trach) and ventilator (vent), dependent with all acts of daily living (ADLs) and was unable to eat, drink or talk. She was quickly seen by our multidisciplinary team including Pharmacy, Rehab (PT/OT/ST), Nursing, Dietary, MD and Respiratory Therapy. Upon initial evaluation, Christina was dependent for all bed mobility, and self-care tasks and unable to eat and drink due to the trach and vent.

With Christina’s full participation and the determination of our care team, she improved significantly and was able to move in and out of bed, transfer to different surfaces, walk with a front-wheeled walker and complete self-care tasks on her own.

Once weaned from the vent and her trach was removed, she was able to talk, eat and drink and achieved a functional level to be safely discharged home.

Christina and her husband expressed their gratitude for all the care she received and were very happy with the progress she made at Kindred that allowed her to go home.

Care for Complex Conditions

Patients come to our hospitals with serious conditions such as respiratory failure, complex wounds, sepsis, stroke, congestive heart failure, or even a combination of these. Their diagnoses are often complicated by existing health problems like diabetes or COPD. Many of our patients require treatments such as mechanical ventilators, dialysis, or IV therapy.
